Position Overview:

As a Director at IE University, you will play a key strategic leadership role, guiding the development, execution, and continuous improvement of initiatives across our various IE Schools and central units — including the Business School, School of Politics, Economics & Global Affairs, School of Science & Technology, School of Architecture & Design, IE Law School, and other academic and institutional departments. You will collaborate closely with senior leadership, faculty, and internal stakeholders to drive innovation, strengthen strategic projects, and ensure operational and academic excellence.

 

This pipeline is designed for experienced professionals with a strong leadership background, typically bringing 6–10+ years of relevant experience, who are ready to shape institutional strategy, manage complex initiatives, and create high‑impact outcomes within a global, multicultural environment.

Responsibilities

Your role as Director will involve:

Strategic Leadership & Institutional Alignment

  • Lead the definition, implementation, and monitoring of strategic plans within the department or center.
  • Provide direction for long‑term development, innovation, and organizational growth.
  • Contribute to senior management discussions, strategic decision‑making, and cross‑departmental alignment.

Program, Research, or Innovation Development

  • Design, coordinate, and enhance initiatives related to learning innovation, research programs, academic quality, or operational effectiveness.
  • Support the development of programs, faculty experience, methodologies, and educational/operational models.
  • Promote adoption of emerging tools, technologies, or methodologies.

Operational Excellence & Problem‑Solving

  • Oversee key processes, ensure smooth operational delivery, manage challenges, and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Lead investigations, analyze issues, and design feasible, sustainable solutions to operational or academic problems.
  • Coordinate resource allocation, procurement, and workflow optimization.

Stakeholder, Partnership & External Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, faculty, program teams, and external partners.
  • Represent the department in institutional meetings, academic networks, events, or external collaborations.
  • Expand visibility and strengthen outreach, impact, or fundraising efforts when applicable.

Team Leadership & Resource Management

  • Supervise team members and lead multidisciplinary groups.
  • Foster a collaborative environment, aligning team capabilities with institutional priorities.
  • Ensure quality of deliverables, adherence to timelines, and consistent communication.

Insight, Research & Continuous Improvement

  • Identify trends, emerging practices, and opportunities for innovation.
  • Promote evidence‑based decision‑making, data‑driven analysis, and high‑quality academic or operational outputs.

Qualifications

To thrive in this role, you should possess the following qualifications:
  • Master’s degree from a top university required; PhD preferred, depending on area.
  • 6–10+ years of relevant professional experience in higher education, learning innovation, public policy, academic development, operations, problem‑solving, or research environments.
  • Proven experience managing complex projects and working with senior‑level stakeholders.
  • Strong strategic thinking, analytical acumen, and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Excellent organizational, leadership, and team‑management skills.
  • High capacity for stakeholder engagement, communication, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Experience in innovation, research, instructional design, edtech, policy‑oriented research, or operational excellence is valued depending on the area.
  • Fluency in English required; proficiency in Spanish highly preferred.
